In today’s blogpost I would like to look back on one of the most beautiful days of my life: our wedding day. It is almost 1,5 year ago now and I still absolutely LOVE to go through all the photo´s we have. Through sharing these pictures I will take you from the beginning of the day to the very end. Welcome to a throwback to the 1st of September 2017; the Roelofsen wedding!
The day started not too early in the morning actually. I woke up around 6am to make sure that I could have a slow start to the morning as I did not want to be in a rush right from the start. The very first thing I did when I opened my eyes was run to my window to check the weather. I think that was the thing I was most nervous about as this was basically the only thing that I did not have any control over hehe. I got up a little bit earlier than the rest of the family as I wanted enough time for relaxation and I wanted to be able to actually realise what was happening that day. Truly cherish the moment as they often say you forget to do so. Soon after I had a light breakfast the doorbell rang and my auntie came in, who was also my hairdresser for that day. Not much later, my best friend also arrived to the party as she would help me with my make-up. Yes, you read that correct, I did my own make-up! I've ever been one for heavy make-up and didn't want to be any different on my big day. So, I decided to go to a luxurious make-up shop, get my make-up done with the right products to see if they would work for me and bought all the basics she used on me like foundation (oops, this is why I am now in love with Chanel foundation) and powder. I already loved this part of the day so much as I felt so pretty, I was so excited to finally wear my dress and for Teunis to see me (and for me to see him, duh).
Ok so this was also a very special part. I was absolutely not nervous at all, right up until I heard the car outside. I think by then it really hit me that it was actually time for us to get married. I don't even think you can describe it as nerves, it is better described as excitement that the day had finally come and I just knew that it was going to be an amazing day. The first look was amazing, he looked amazing ( I mean duh, have you seen him?). Teunis picked me up at my parents house which is kind of a tradition and my parents live in a neighbourhood with a lot of 'older' people. It was really cute as they all came outside to see the 'happy couple' and one of them even wanted to take a picture of us which you can see in the picture above, so naturally we posed for her! So. Freaking. Cute.
After Teunis picked me up we went to this beautiful place that had a lavender field and we went a bit into the woods as well to take a couple of pictures. In the mean time, all the people at home had all the time to get ready for the rest of the day which started at 12 o'clock at our location to shoot pictures with the family.
So after our little photo shoot we went to our location to meet the rest of the family. They were there at the expected time and we arrived only a minute after the last guest arrived. Before we arrived, my best friend who was also the made of honour helped everyone with their corsages and that resulted in this super cute picture with my nephew! I didn't want to put up too many family pics, but I could not not post these last two. The first to last one is with Teunis' brothers and sister (they are a family of six children) and the last one is Teunis, my brother and I. These pictures are just so precious to me!
After that we went to my parents house to have lunch. This was really low-key and simple as we had a budget in mind and we rather spent the money on the rest of the day. Even though it was simple it was delicious and really convenient to be home for a little while too.
It was hard not too overshare on this part, maybe I already did a little. Well, oops! It is just impossible for me to choose when looking through all these pictures. I would love to just have a coffee date with y'all and go through all of these photo's one by one but hey, I think this is the next best thing. So what is happening in the first picture you might ask yourself. Well, first it is necessary to know that I live in a VERY small town and everybody knows everybody. This means that when someone gets married, everyone knows about it. Our little town has this super cute tradition for as long as I can remember that a couple of people that have time show up at the town hall do this to see the happy couple go in. I remember my mom took me sometimes and I thought that was just so cool to do. I got to see a real bride (aka princess through my 6yo eyes) and that to me was amazing! It warmed my heart to see that these people took the time and effort to come and see us , so cute. Our ceremony was in the old town hall that both our parents got married in as well. It was gorgeous, emotional and funny all at the same time. I did have to stop myself from crying when I walked in with my dad, especially when I saw his proud / teary face I had a hard time holding it together. We had to cutest ring-bearers ( our nephews) and had our fairytale kiss moment on the balcony (my parents have the exact same picture!). When we came out everyone was blowing bubbles and of course since I married a 7yo child, Teunis had to get involved in the fun as well. One of the many things I love about him!
After our 'official' ceremony it was time for the church ceremony. It was so special to me to do this in the church were I grew up in and were Teunis and I also decided to go to. This was obviously special as at is so special to be able to ask for Gods blessing on your marriage and for God to be included in your marriage. I love all of these pictures SO much!
After church it was time to head to our location again. We were all ready for dinner and it did not dissapoint. It was so lovely to have the whole group together and enjoy a nice meal during good conversation before the craziness of the reception started. Oh, and did you notice the little flags? My mom sewed these onto a string herself and I still have / love to this day!
The evening just couldn't have gone any better. It was relaxed, cosy and everyone was talking to one another. It was so lovely to see all the people we love and care about get to mix and mingle. The suitcase that you can see in one of the first pictures was used for all of the cards we received and I actually thrifted that for only a couple of bucks and the banner above that was a little DIY project. During the night they even made us play a little game and in the last picture you can see my brother saying some funny things to us as well.
Looking back on this day just makes me realise that I honestly am the luckiest girl alive. I have such a loving and caring group of friends and family around me and I married the best one out there. Well, there you have it. I think with all of these pictures (apologies for the occassional overshare here and there) you have a good idea of what our wedding day looked like. I hope this gives you the feeling you got to get to know me a bit more or maybe I gave you some inspiration for your big day. Anyhow I hope you loved this little trip down memory lane just as much as I did and I'll be back soon with more posts on weddings and married life! Until then!
Love,
Marina
